Chapter 7

Recap: Mithun suggest the names chosen by Reyansh to Vaishu and later he confronts about Reyansh’s feelings for Vaishu.

One week passed by and Reyansh, Mithun got back to office after their conversation. Reyansh tried his best to not make it obvious that he was looking at Vaishu and tried avoiding her. At the same time he literally pushed Mithun to get the babies to him once they returned from office.

He returned early to home which was unusual but he couldn’t wait to return and take the babies in his arm. Mithun would beg Reyansh to give the babies to him for sometime but Reyansh wouldn’t let him near the babies. Mithun would pretend to take the babies away knowing very well to provoke Reyansh and he was more happy to get Reyansh and the babies more closer every day.

Reyansh came dressed up for office and sat to have breakfast his eyes searching for his muffins and someone though he pretended to avoid  her. Asha placed breakfast and Reyansh stopped her.

Reyansh: Asha ma, what special today ? You prepare sweets only if there is any special occasion so what is it ?

Asha: Special is Vaishu made breakfast today and sweets because today me and Vaishu are going to the near by temple to name the babies.

Reyansh bit his cheek to stop the smile from being evident on his face and took a piece of the spongy dosa and vadacurry to his mouth. His eyes closed to its taste and his taste buds danced in excitement. He opened his eyes when he heard Asha laughing at his expression.

Asha: Save some reaction for the sweet she made. You will gift bangles to her hands for the sweets she made. Also don’t fire me after tasting her food. Spare this poor lady.

Reyansh: Asha maa, neither you nor Vaishnavi is an employee here and you know that very well.

Asha: I know about me but you never told me about Vaishnavi. So what is she if not employee ?

Reyansh: Can i have the sweet now ?

Asha: changing the topic ? no problem you will answer one day. Let me tell you secret…

Asha looked around and leaned to his ear and whispered only for him to hear.

Asha: I never saw you searching for Vaishu in the mornings and also I will never say anyone that you were checking her out when you entered her room pretending to return the babies after playing with them at night.

Reyansh propped his elbow on the dining table and hid his face with his fist. He cleared his throat and spoke in a low stuttering voice.

Reyansh: I …. ah.hmm.. I did not… do anything.

Asha: Oh may be I was wrong. No problem have this sweet.

Asha served the wheat halwa in a bowl and placed it before Reyansh. He took a spoonful of the halwa in his mouth and leaned back on the seat as the sweet slid down his throat.

Reyansh: hmm… Woww.. I have never had a sweet like this in my life. Asha maa I m sorry but I m a very genuine person and this sweet won all the sweets you made so far.

Asha: Expected reaction. Men always say food from mother’s hand is the best but that changes completely when someone make her entry in his life.

Reyansh: What time are you leaving ? I will inform the driver to drive slow. Take care that muffins don’t feel any discomfort.

Asha: We will take care and you don’t have to inform the driver. Vaishu wanted to go by auto. She wanted to go somewhere else after finishing the prayers at the temple.

Reyansh: Where does she wanted to go ?

Asha shrugged and Reyansh’s face frowned hearing that she wanted to go somewhere.

Reyansh Mv: What if she wanted to go to her ex husband and try to convince him showing him little ones. They are so adorable for anyone to ignore. No she won’t do that but where would she go?

Reyansh: Ok do you know what name she has chosen for muffins ?

Asha shrugged as no and returned to the kitchen.

Reyansh left from home and drove the car himself. Instead of driving to office he waited at the corner of the street until he saw Asha and Vaishu getting in an auto with babies in their hand. He followed the auto and saw it stopping at the near by temple.

Asha saw Reyansh’s car but carried on as if she never saw and entered the temple with Vaishu after buying flowers, coconut to offer to the god. Vaishu and Asha did their prayers and sat with babies on their lap. Vaishu called the priest and informed him about naming the babies and requested him to bless them after informing him about the time of their birth.

The priest chanted some mantras and applied a thin line of holy ash on the baby’s forehead and gave flowers to Vaishu.

Priest: Romba lucky kozhandhainga. Appadiye ilavarasan, ilavarasi madhiri irupanga. Indha ulagathula avanga aasa pattadhu mattum illa nenachadhu ellam kedaikkum. Unnoda thalai ezhutha ivanga maathiduvanga.    ( Very lucky babies.. They will live like a prince and princess. They will get anything they wanted in this world. They will change your fate )

Asha smiled knowing the inner meaning of his words and felt happy for that.

Priest: kozhandha pera kaadhula moonu vati sollunga. ( Say the baby’s name thrice in his ear )

Vaishu thanked and kissed her babies foreheads.

Asha: Enna peru vekka pora ? ( what name have you chosen ?)

Vaishu smiled and bent to the boy’s ear and said ” Ishaan” and then leaned to the girl ear and said ” Ishika “.

Asha: Reyansh will be very happy to know their names. Thank you so much.

Vaishu: Sir mattum enna save pannala na innaikku nanum illa ennoda kozhnadhaigalum illa. Adhu mattuma veetla edamum velayum kuduthu irukaru. Avar Ishaan, Ishika mela evlo pasam vechurukaru nu nallave theriyum. Appo idhu kooda pannala eppadi.                                                           ( If sir hadn’t saved me then me and my babies will not be alive today. Not only that he gave shelter and a job for me. I know how much he loves Ishaan and Ishika so how will I not do this at least ?)

Asha Mv: Soon you will know that he loves you too but he has to realize and accept that first.

Asha then called the babies names thrice and then left the temple and got in a auto.

Asha: where do you want to go now ?

Vaishu: Asha maa, enakku sarees konjam vanganum apram Ishaan kum Ishika kum konjam dresses, diapers, baby powder lam vaanganum.  ( Asha maa, I wanted to buy some sarees for me, Dresses, diapers and baby powder for Ishaan and Ishika )

Asha: Reyansh kitta sonna avare vaangi irupare Vaishu. ( If you had told Reyansh then he would have bought everything Vaishu )

Vaishu: He has done so much already Asha maa. I don’t want to trouble him anymore. Lets go to some nearby shop and I will take less time.

Reyansh was following the auto and Vaishu stopped the auto before a small shop. Asha stopped Vaishu pulling her back.

Asha: Vaishu vera shop polame ma ( We could go to some other shop dear )

Vaishu: Ingeyum dress vaanga makkal irukanga Asha ma. Enkitta irukka kasula ellam vaanganum apram konjam sethu veikkanum adhunala inga vaangikalam. Parunga display irukka dress lam nalla irukku.                                                                                           ( there are people to buy dress from this shop too Asha maa. I need to buy everything from the money I have and also I need to save some so we will buy here only. Also look at the dresses in display they look so good )

She smiled and entered the shop with Asha. Reyansh cursed himself for not having the thoughts to buy more dresses for Vaishu and the babies. He hit the steering in frustration and fought within himself if he should go and take them back.

Asha saw the sarees in Vaishu’s hand. They were simple yet looked beautiful.

Asha: Enna innum varala ? ( Why isn’t he here yet ?)

Vaishu: Who ?

Asha: No one.. hmm salesman.. I was looking for another salesperson so that I could choose dresses for Ishaan and Ishika.

Vaishu hummed and Asha’s mobile rang with call from Reyansh and she smiled answering it immediately.

Reyansh: Asha maa, can you please come to home. Its urgent please.

Asha: Ok Reyansh. I will be there soon.

Asha cut the call and informed Vaishu about Reyansh’s call and pulled her along to leave but Vaishu stopped her.

Vaishu: Asha maa please just few minutes and I will choose dress for Ishaan and Ishika.

Asha: Vaishu bill the sarees alone and we will come tomorrow and do shopping for Ishu babies. ok ?

Vaishu nodded and they left after billing the dresses she chose for her. Once they returned home they saw Reyansh waiting in the car at the gate and got down looking at them.

Reyansh: Get in the car and we are going somewhere.

Asha: Reyansh, won’t you ask the names of your muffins ?

Reyansh Mv: What would have she chosen ? Would have she chose the name I suggested ?

Reyansh: What are their names ?

Asha nudged Vaishu to say and she looked at Reyansh after a week which made his heart flutter in happiness.

Reyansh Mv: finally got to see her eyes after a week. Why doesn’t she look at me at all ?

Vaishu: Ishaan . Ishika..

Reyansh broke into a wide smile and touched the cheeks of Ishaan and Ishika mumbling their names slowly.

Reyansh: beautiful name for my muffins… Ishaan  Ishika… lovely… Lets go..

Vaishu: Why me ?

Reyansh: you will know Vaishnavi get inside the car.

Asha sat in the back seat and Vaishnavi joined her. Reyansh drove the car looking at Vaishu from the rear mirror and stopped before a huge shop for kids.

Vaishu: Sir, edhukku inga vandhu irukkom ? ( Sir, why are we here ?)

Reyansh Mv: Sir cut panni irukalam. ( Could have cut the sir )

Reyansh: Today muffins has got their names and I thought shopping for the them. Lets buy whatever they will need and its my gift for their special day so don’t refuse.

Before she could protest he took Ishika in his arm and entered the shop wearing a mask. Asha followed him pushing the trolley and watched him picking everything he felt that was needed. Everytime Vaishu tried to stop him he simply ignored her and filled 2 trolleys with clothes, socks, gloves, sweaters and 3 trolleys with diapers, wipes, feeding bottles, bottle steriliser, lotions, shampoos, powder, oil etc..

Vaishu stood froze looking at the things and she badly wanted to know the amount spent but Reyansh gave Ishika to her pointing to a room.

Reyansh: Its been long time we are here and muffins must be hungry so feed them before they start crying.

Once she was gone he billed everything and got them packed and placed it in the trunk of his car. He returned and saw Vaishu and Asha coming out of the room and they were patting the babies ‘s back. He took Ishika and laid her to his chest to pat her and smiled when she burped and puked cuddled milk a little over his shirt.

Vaishu: Acho… sorry sir.. sorry .. sorry give her to me.

Vaishu felt bad that his shirt was ruined and she knew how expensive those shirts were. She quickly got a wipe from the counter and cleaned the spill on his chest not aware of the fire she lit as she did in the process of cleaning.

Reyansh couldn’t remove his eyes from her face that haunted him day and night. He wanted to drown in them and know the pain hid behind them but the wall she built around her to stay away from him stopped him everytime.

Reyansh: Its ok Vaishnavi, I don’t care about it.

His voice broke her trance and she froze with her hand on his chest and her breathe laboured realising what she had done. She removed her hand quickly and mumbled a sorry backing off with head bowed as always.

They left the shop and Reyansh drove them home. Servants carried the boxes to Vaishu’s room and maids were instructed to arrange everything for Vaishu’s convenience. She stood watching all the things and tears escaped her eyes feeling helpless on not being able to buy things for her babies on her own but felt grateful to Reyansh for loving them.
