The car halted in front of the villa, and Ayaan groaned the moment he spotted the line of familiar cars parked outside. He knew that revealing the truth to his family was inevitable but he was nowhere near ready. Not when Zara needed him, not when her world had collapsed and certainly not when he had to confront the damage he himself had caused between them.

Reluctantly, he stepped out and opened the door for Zara. She was still sobbing quietly, unaware of the storm waiting inside. Ayaan exchanged a brief look with the CSO before tightening his hold around Zara and leading her into the living room.

The moment they stepped inside, gasps echoed through the hall. For the first time, Zara lifted her head… and froze. The entire Rey family stood there, eyes glued to her swollen face. Vaishu rushed forward, pulling Zara into her arms and wiped her tears with trembling fingers.

“What happened, Zara?” Vaishu asked gently. But Zara only clung to her tighter, crying harder.

Reyansh’s jaw clenched, fury radiating from him as he turned to Ayaan who was already meeting Ishaan’s burning glare.

“Would you explain what the hell is going on, Ayaan? Why did the CSO fly to Delhi? Where were you three the entire evening and why is Zara crying like this?” Reyansh thundered.

Ayaan flinched for the briefest second, silently cursing the old man’s ability to command a room even now.

Ishaan stepped forward, eyes sharp. “The CSO has been reporting to you more than usual these past days. And when neither of you were reachable tonight, our doubts only grew stronger. So, Ayaan… care to tell us what exactly is happening?”

Shanthi stepped inside slowly and every pair of eyes swung toward her in confusion.

“Who is this woman? And what is she doing here in the middle of the night?” Reyansh demanded, his gaze shifting from Ayaan to Shanthi, who stood frozen, stunned to find herself in the presence of one of the richest and most powerful families in the world.

Ayaan turned to the CSO, “Take her to the outhouse,” he instructed quietly and only after Shanthi was escorted out did he face his family.

“She is Shanthi… the fiancée of the man who orchestrated the bomb blast.” Ayaan said and gasps rippled through the room. Vaishu and Pari’s hands flew to their mouths, while Reyansh and Ishaan stared at Ayaan in disbelief.

Ayaan nodded once and with a heavy breath, he began explaining everything about the blast, the conspiracy, Zara’s kidnapping, her father being used as a pawn and the truth they had finally uncovered tonight.

Shock descended like a thick cloud. Vaishu staggered, her knees weakening but Zara, despite her trembling state, caught her immediately and held her upright. Reyansh rushed forward, pulling Vaishu against his chest before turning back to Ayaan with a hardened expression.

“How did you even know about that woman Shanthi? And how long have you been working on this? Why didn’t you tell us?” Ishaan’s voice cracked with desperation.

Ayaan exhaled, his shoulders stiff, “I didn’t know about Shanthi until this evening, I only found out today that the man who handed over the letter at the airport was Zara’s father. I first saw their picture on her laptop during a meeting she was presenting for the first time. That’s when the dots started connecting. And then, at the party in Delhi… Zara saw a man and recognized him. We had him taken into custody and learned he was Baskar’s brother. He took us to Baskar’s house. And that’s where we met Shanthi.” he admitted and Ayaan’s voice dropped, guilt throbbing in every word, while Zara stood silently.

“If you met Zara for the first time in that meeting… and you knew her father was the man behind everything that destroyed our lives then how did you two even get along? What am I missing here?” Reyansh’s voice was low, controlled, but extremely dangerous.

Ayaan lowered his head, unable to look at anyone.

“Ayaan, I’m asking you something,” Reyansh thundered, his voice echoing through the hall.

Ayaan swallowed, his throat tightening. “I… pretended to like her. I married her for revenge so I could get close and dig out the truth.”

The moment the confession left his mouth, a sharp, resounding slap cracked across his cheek. Zara and Pari flinched, eyes squeezed shut at the sound.

Ayaan slowly turned his gaze only to see his mother standing before him, tears streaming down her furious, devastated face.

“You married her for revenge? And now that the truth stands bare, that she is innocent what do you have to say for everything you’ve done to her? Even if her father had been guilty, what fault was hers? What or who gave you the right to punish her for a crime she never committed? I thought I raised you better than this. Aren’t you ashamed ? Infact I feel ashamed to call you my son ” Vaishu choked, her voice trembled with heartbreak.

Before anyone could speak further, Vaishu turned toward Zara and shattering everyone’s breath she folded her hands.

Zara gasped and immediately stopped her, catching her wrists with trembling fingers, “No, Mama… please don’t. Don’t ever do that. I truly see you as my mother. Everyone here… this family… you all are my own.” she said and her voice broke softly.

Vaishu pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her as if she was her own daughter.

“You disappointed us… and I am ashamed of you, Ayaan.” Reyansh’s voice cracked, the weight of betrayal heavy in every word.

Ishaan stepped toward Zara, his eyes filled with guilt, concern and a quiet ache for the girl standing shattered before them.

“Zara… if you knew your father was involved in all this, why didn’t you ever suspect something was wrong with Ayaan’s intentions ? Why didn’t you sense your life could be in danger?” he asked her, his voice was gentle, but Zara didn’t look up. Her gaze stayed fixed on the floor, her tears the only answer she could give.

Ayaan swallowed, his guilt suffocating him. “She is the girl I saved that night… years ago. She fell in love with me from that night on. And I… I took advantage of that love.” he confessed.

The moment the words spilled out, Zara collapsed onto the couch, sobbing uncontrollably, her grief raw, her heartbreak echoing in the room.

Ishaan’s eyes widened in fury. In the next second, he stormed toward Ayaan, grabbed him by the collar, and yanked him forward, teeth clenched and trembling with rage.

“What the hell have you done, Ayaan? Didn’t I tell you, warn you to step back from the wedding if you had even an ounce of doubt? Didn’t I tell you Zara is in love with you and begged you not to break her heart? Then why? Why did you do this? You could have come to us. We could have handled everything better” Ishaan’s roar shook the room and he shoved Ayaan away in disgust.

Before Ayaan could respond, Reyansh stepped forward, fury blazing in his eye. “My daughter will not stay here another moment. She will live with us at the manor until we decide what’s best for her future. And you, don’t you dare to come before me after what you have done ” he said and his voice was cold and final.

Ayaan’s eyes widened in shock. “What do you mean she’ll stay at the manor? Dad, she is my wife.” he roared stepping forward.

Ishaan immediately blocked him, pressing a hand to Ayaan’s chest, eyes blazing, “No. She will not stay with you. Stay away from her.” he roared back.

Ayaan’s breath hitched, anger and fear twisting inside him. He glared back at Ishaan, teeth clenched.

“She is my wife and she will live with me. This is between husband and wife—no one… no one gets to decide for us.” he shot back, voice shaking with panic and terrified of losing her.

” You are not her husband ” Ishaan shot back instantly pushing Ayaan.

Ayaan let out a bitter, sarcastic laugh. “Wow, brother. When you messed up your chances with Pari, you begged for a second chance so why can’t I? Yes, I screwed up. I won’t deny that. But that doesn’t mean I can’t fix what I broke. Let me remind you that I’m not the only one in the Rey family who has messed things up ” Vaishu gasped realizing he was referring to Reyansh and his past while Reyansh stood frozen on his words.

Ayaan stepped closer, eyes locked on Ishaan’s. “I married her for revenge. But I never mistreated her, I’ve given her every right a wife deserves. I’ve taken care of her, protected her, stood by her. And I don’t owe anyone here an explanation about our personal life. This is our life ” he thundered glaring at everyone, challenging them.

Pari, Vaishu, and even Ishaan stood stunned, unable to believe Ayaan had spoken back with such defiance. Reyansh didn’t say a word, he simply watched his son, his own past knocking hard against his conscience. He had no right to interfere, he had once made unforgivable mistakes too and despite everything, Vaishu had given him a second chance. How could he deny his son the same?

Ayaan looked at everyone his eyes blazing with fury, “I will talk to her. We will handle our life. Not you.” he said, his tone firm and unwavering.

Before anyone could stop him, Ayaan moved toward Zara, gently but firmly taking her wrist and without another word, he pulled her along and headed straight for the study.

Ayaan closed the door behind them, his hands trembled as he held Zara’s hands. He drew in a long, shaky breath, his voice cracked as he spoke.

“Zara… I know I messed up….messed up so badly that even a thousand apologies wouldn’t mend what I broke inside you. And I know this isn’t the moment to ask anything of you, but there is so much you still need to know. So much I need to confess. But not now… not like this… not when everything is falling apart around us.”

He cupped her hands tighter, desperate.

“I didn’t expect the family to be here. I didn’t expect things to explode like this. But please… wifey… we’re not done. We can’t be. There’s so much left between us that needs to be handled, understood, spoken. I… I need you, Zara. I need you more than I’ve ever needed anything in my life. Don’t let anyone decide for us.”, he said and his voice broke entirely.

“I know I shattered your heart. I know I should never have used your love against you. But put yourself in my shoes, I’d loved that girl for over a decade. My mother lived every day drowning in guilt. I thought they needed justice… that I needed answers. And even then… even when I tried my hardest to hate you… things changed between us. You changed everything.”, he said and he swallowed hard, a tear slipping down.

“This isn’t the time for confessions, but hear me just this once, please forgive me, wifey. If redemption means punishment, I’ll take it. If you want me to bleed, I will. But don’t leave me, Zara… don’t walk away from us.”, Ayaan’s voice fell to a whisper, raw and helpless.

Ayaan let go of Zara’s hands and turned away, dragging his palm over his face as he tried to wipe the tears that refused to stop. He took a shaky breath and turned back to her again, eyes red, lashes wet, chest rising and falling with the effort of holding himself together.

Zara’s heart clenched. She was hurt deeply, painfully. There were parts of his betrayal she knew she couldn’t forgive… not yet. Maybe not ever. But she couldn’t bring herself to hate him for wanting revenge. For fighting for the people he loved. For seeking justice for a wound she hadn’t even known she was part of it unknowingly.

“He had every right”, she admitted to herself.

If the roles had been reversed, if someone had harmed her mother, her family… she would have burned the world down without a second thought.

And through everything, through his anger, through his deception he had shown her love, care, protection, even if it began as an act. He had given her a family who embraced her as their own… a family who had stood against their own blood for her.

Her thoughts spiraled, raw and honest.

” I once promised to love him in every situation. And this man… this man standing before me broken for the second time… doesn’t deserve to drown in this pain alone. I might not be able to forgive him completely. Not today. But I can stand beside him. Because we both deserve that chance to fight together for what comes next. We have been betrayed equally and we need justice. Six years of my love wasn’t a lie. And I can’t be selfish and abandon him now… not when the world has already taken so much from him. If I walk away, I’d be no different from the woman who betrayed him for more than a decade ” she thought and her gaze lifted to Ayaan who was pleading, shattered, silently begging for one last chance.

And her heart made the decision before her lips could.

“I’m not upset at you, Ayaan… so I’m not leaving you. There is a greater battlefield waiting for us, and we are bound to fight it together for justice for your mother, for my father, for myself… and for the girl you lost. You hurt me, yes. But if I were in your shoes, I would have done the same. So I understand your pain. And I’m not walking away.” Zara whispered, her voice steady despite the tremor in her heart.

Ayaan didn’t wait another second and pulled her into a bone-crushing embrace, wrapping her so tightly it felt like he was anchoring his sanity to her existence. His face buried in her neck, breath breaking against her skin.

“Thank you… thank you so much,” he whispered, voice breaking with relief and regret.

When he finally pulled back, he cupped her face gently and pressed his lips to her forehead soft, lingering, almost reverent. His eyes closed as if sealing a vow.

“I promise, I’ll set everything right,” he murmured, wiping the tears on her cheeks, unaware of the one sliding down his own.

Zara reached up and wiped his tear too. And with their fingers interlaced they walked out of the study together.

The family’s eyes fell instantly on their joined hands. The room went silent, shock, confusion, guilt and anger twisting together in the air.

Ayaan stepped forward, his voice firm but calm.

“I know you all must be hating me right now… maybe even my presence here. But we have far greater things ahead of us than my mistakes. Our personal life is ours to handle. And we are handling it. We’re fine.” he said showing their hands.

” Zara, did he threaten you ? You don’t have endure anything, anymore. You have us child, trust us and come with us ” Reyansh said and Vaishu too nodded her head but Zara only smiled at them.

” He didn’t threaten me, Papa. And please, Mama… don’t hate him. Look past what he has done and see what he carries for all of you. Forgive him for my sake. We have only touched one part of the truth, and there is still a long road ahead before everything is revealed,” she said, her voice steady, though the plea beneath it was unmistakable.

Ayaan didn’t bother if he would be forgiven, he stroke Zara’s back to calm her and then looked at his family.

“Now, let’s get back to the manor, but only for a while. We need to plan what has to be done next and the action to be taken against our enemies. Once that is set, my wife and I will return to the villa. You’re always welcome to meet your daughter anytime. And Zara can visit you whenever she wishes.” He said looking at everyone with quiet assurance.

Reyansh didn’t say a word. He simply turned and walked out first gritting his teeth, Vaishu following with a conflicted expression.

Ayaan and Zara were the last to exit still hand in hand.
