Ayaan and Zara woke up to find Rehan and Zavi sleeping peacefully between them after a long night of play in the nursery. They had turned one and the room was beautifully decorated with shimmering stars and soft plush toys hung from the ceiling swaying gently.
Zara leaned closer and kissed their foreheads tenderly. “Happy birthday, my babies,” she whispered with a smile, full of love for them.
Ayaan kissed their cheeks and tiny palms. “Happy birthday, my prince and princess,” he murmured, his voice full of love.
They waited quietly for them to wake.
Zara’s phone buzzed with a message from Vaishu, asking if the kids were awake and she replied that they were still asleep.
Nearly an hour later, Rehan was the first to stir. Stretching his little body, he yawned and rubbed his eyes. As he woke fully, he blinked several times, mesmerized by the stars and toys hanging above. Sitting up instantly, he pointed toward the ceiling.
“Amma…” he began, followed by excited babbling.
When he tried to stand, Ayaan scooped him up and pressed a loud kiss to his cheek, wishing him again. Zara ruffled his hair, smiling at his excitement and kissed him gently.
Hearing their voices, Zavi woke up too and was immediately showered with kisses and birthday wishes from her parents.
The room soon filled with laughter as Ayaan and Zara presented the twins with large toys. Rehan and Zavi hugged them tightly and rolled around the bed, squealing with delight.
After a long hour of play, Ayaan and Zara decided it was bath time. They took the kids to the bathroom and soon the family was splashing and laughing together in the jacuzzi. Once bathed, Rehan and Zavi were dressed in matching new outfits.
When they arrived in the living room, the entire family was waiting. Everyone burst into a birthday song, clapping and cheering for the little ones. One by one, they showered Rehan and Zavi with wishes and gifts.
Rehan sat proudly on Reyansh’s lap, while Zavi settled comfortably on Ayaan’s lap as the family enjoyed breakfast together.
A priest had been invited to perform a special pooja at the temple in the manor to seek blessings for the birthday babies.
Later, the family relaxed in the living room, where Rehan and Zavi happily played with Ved and Saanvi and their laughter filled the house with joy and warmth.
Ayaan and Zara then surprised the twins with their biggest gift of the day, a custom made mini battery operated look alike of his own Rolls Royce.
Ayaan carefully lifted Rehan and Zavi and seated them inside the little car and strapped them in securely. The moment he switched it on, the car hummed to life and began moving slowly. Rehan squealed in excitement, gripping the steering wheel, while Zavi clapped her hands, laughing loudly.
Ved followed them in his toy jeep, proudly steering behind the twins and the family watched with fond smiles as the children enjoyed their tiny ride with their laughter echoing through the space.
After the joyful ride, Ayaan and Zara carried Rehan and Zavi to the nursery, now completely redesigned for them. The room looked magical, Rehan’s side had a themed car bed while Zavi’s had a beautiful Cinderella bed, both perfectly sized for their nap after playtime.
The walls were painted with their favorite cartoon characters, the ones they loved playing with, since Ayaan and Zara never allowed screen time. All the old toys had been cleared out and replaced with customized new ones in their favorite colors. The room was filled with cars, bikes, plush toys, remote-controlled toys and learning toys carefully chosen for their age.
The moment they stepped inside, Rehan and Zavi insisted on getting to the floor immediately. They crawled eagerly toward the toys as their curiosity was unstoppable. With the help of walkers and specially installed support bars planned thoughtfully by Ayaan they stood and wobbled, trying to walk on their own.
In one corner stood a small musical setup, a keyboard and a tiny piano. Drawn by the sounds, Rehan crawled toward it and the couple joined their children as they squealed with delight, moving from one toy to another, exploring everything with wonder.
Hours later Vaishu and Reyansh arrived with lunch for the kids.
“Looks like all the time you spent planning this surprise was worth it. They don’t seem to get tired at all.” Reyansh said with a smile and bent to lift Rehan but he protested immediately, crying and crawling away toward the piano instead. Reyansh laughed softly as Rehan turned back, flashing his four tiny teeth.
Zara sat beside him and pressed a few keys and Rehan chuckled, slapping his little palms on them, delighted by the sounds.
Meanwhile, Ayaan helped Zavi sit on a small elephant ride-on toy that gently moved around the room. Vaishu began feeding the twins patiently as they continued to play, laugh and explore.
Finally, after Ayaan and Zara put the babies to sleep in the nursery, they instructed the nannies to stay close and keep an eye on them. Exhausted yet content, the couple headed to the dining room, where the family had been waiting for them to join lunch.
Ayaan dropped into his chair with a long, tired sigh while Zara leaned back beside him. Pari noticed their fatigue immediately and signaled the maids to serve lunch without delay.
“Both of you should go back to your room and rest properly before getting ready for the party this evening,” Reyansh said gently, placing Zara’s favorite pasta on her plate.
Zara looked up, hesitating for a moment before speaking. “Papa, Mama… are you both okay with celebrating only with our family?” she asked softly.
Reyansh and Vaishu exchanged a glance and nodded without a second thought.
“You are their mother, Zara and of course you would want what’s best for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong in wanting your children to grow up away from the spotlight, away from public attention, media glare and the elite circles around us.” Vaishu said warmly.
Vaishu looked at Ayaan and then Zara with a smiled and continued, “For now, they will be happiest with just us. When they grow older and start school, they’ll probably demand a party with their friends and then you will have to manage that,” she added with a light laugh.
Zara nodded feeling relief, gratitude and returned Vaishu’s smile, comforted by the understanding and support of the family.
Ayaan and Zara returned to their room and the moment the door closed behind them, Ayaan shrugged off his shirt and flopped onto the bed, stretching his arms wide. Zara smiled and settled into his embrace, fitting against him as if she belonged nowhere else.
Ayaan pulled her close, crushing her gently against his chest and pressed a soft kiss into her hair.
“Ayaan… are you really okay with my decision to celebrate their birthday at home, with just our family? Didn’t you want to invite the business elites and political leaders?” Zara asked quietly.
Ayaan rolled her onto her back, leaned over her and playfully bit her cheek.
“Stop asking the same question again and again, Zara. I never wanted a party filled with elites or politicians. This was my decision too.” he said with a smile.
His expression softened as he continued, “I don’t want our babies surrounded by hundreds of people and make them feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Today is their day. We planned what would make them happy and that’s all that matters.”
Zara relaxed completely and her worries melted away.
“Now rest for a while, we need our energy for the evening celebration.” Ayaan added, pulling her back into his arms.
Wrapped in each other’s warmth, they drifted into a peaceful sleep.
By evening, Zara and Ayaan were busy getting Rehan and Zavi ready for the celebration. Rehan was dressed in a tiny tuxedo, looking every bit like a little gentleman, while Zavi wore a beautifully designed frock that made her look like a princess.
Ayaan carefully set Rehan’s hair, while Zara styled Zavi’s soft curls and gently placed a delicate diamond tiara on her head. Ayaan then opened a velvet box, revealing the custom-made jewels he had specially designed for the twins. Together, they adorned Rehan and Zavi with the pieces, smiling with quiet pride.
Zara kissed both their cheeks lovingly. “Aww… our Rehan and Zavi look so beautiful… so pretty,” she murmured.
Rehan immediately ruffled his hair with a mischievous grin, ruining the perfectly styled look. Ayaan burst out laughing and caught his tiny hand before he could do more damage.
“Like father, like son. You too like messy hair and mommy likes our messy hair too.” Ayaan teased and lifted Rehan into his arms.
“Come on, my prince.” he said and then he stretched out his other hand. “Come on, princess. You look so beautiful.” he said calling Zavi.
Zara placed Zavi in his arms and smiled as Ayaan balanced both of them effortlessly. While Ayaan stayed with the kids, Zara slipped away to get ready. She returned in a beautiful gown that perfectly matched Zavi’s outfit, while Ayaan’s attire complemented Rehan’s tuxedo.
The family of four stepped out of the room and entered the elevator. Rehan was busy playing with Ayaan’s moustache and giggling nonstop, while Zara gently took Zavi from him, keeping her distracted so she wouldn’t tug at her hair or pull off the tiara.
As they entered the garden, Rehan and Zavi clapped their hands in excitement. The space was alive with dancing cartoon characters, glowing stars and colorful balloons filling the air. Ved and Saanvi were already dancing with Ishaan and Advika.
The moment the birthday babies appeared, everyone’s attention turned toward them.
Rehan beamed and began climbing over Ayaan just as one of the cartoon characters playfully poked his cheek and belly. His squeals of delight rang through the garden, filling the evening with laughter and joy.
Ayaan set Rehan down on the floor and crouched before him as Rehan bounced excitedly, trying to match Ved’s dance steps.
“Aww, my boy is becoming a dancer. Advi, looks like you have got another student for your dance class.” Ayaan laughed and scooped Rehan up and kissed his cheek, earning a giggle in return.
Soon, the family gathered around the table where a huge cake had been beautifully set for the twins. Ayaan and Zara held Rehan’s and Zavi’s tiny hands together and helped them cut the cake.
Before either Ayaan or Zara could pick up a piece, both the kids plunged their hands straight into the cake and started licking the cream off their fingers and in the process, smearing it all over their parents’ faces as they tried to feed them.
Laughter erupted all around as they watched them play with the cake.
Reyansh and Vaishu stepped forward next and fed cake to the twins, followed by the rest of the family, as the celebration continued with joy, chaos and endless smiles.
The garden slowly settled into a hush as the music softened and laughter melted into warmth. Ayaan held Rehan close while Zara cradled Zavi and the family gathered near the far end of the lawn where two young saplings stood side by side, freshly planted in rich soil.
“Before we end this day, we wanted to give our children something that goes beyond toys and celebrations, something that stays with them for life.” Ayaan said in a steady but heavy voice laced with emotion.
Zara placed two beautifully crafted wooden boxes on the table beside the saplings.
‘ Rehan, Zavi ‘, the names were engraved delicately in gold.
“These are your time capsules, inside are pieces of today, our love, our words and memories.” Zara whispered, brushing a kiss over their foreheads.
Ayaan opened one box slightly, revealing letters, tiny silver casts of their first footprints, and a folded note in his handwriting.
” Rehan and Zavi will open these on their eighteenth birthday. We want them to remember that they were born into unconditional love.” Ayaan said and Reyansh stepped forward then, his voice calm but carrying the weight of years lived with honor.
“When I see these two, I don’t see heirs or legacies. I see children who deserve a life filled with choice, courage and kindness.” he said, resting his hand gently on Ayaan’s shoulder
He crouched slightly to meet Rehan’s curious eyes. “Grow strong, my boy, not to rule others but to protect those who cannot protect themselves.” he said and turned to Zavi. “And you, my little queen… never let the world dim your fire. Walk with your head high and your heart gentle.” he said kissing her forehead.
Vaishu moved beside him, her eyes was shining with pride and emotion. She reached out and touched the saplings tenderly.
“These trees, are not symbols of power. They are symbols of responsibility.” she said in a warm tone and looked at Rehan and Zavi, then at Zara.
“May they grow knowing that strength is not in control but in compassion.” Vaishu said and bent closer to Zavi and kissed her tiny fingers.
“My darling girl, may you always walk through life with courage in your heart and kindness in your soul” she said and then placed her palm over Rehan’s head. “And you, my little warrior… may your kindness always be louder than your anger.”
Ayaan guided the family toward the saplings.
“This tree is yours, Rehan, may you grow grounded, fearless and true.” he said.
Zara smiled through her tears. “And this one is yours, Zavi. May you grow wise, radiant and free.”
Small plaques at the base of each tree bore their names and birthdates, catching the soft glow of the garden lights.
Rehan clapped his hands, thrilled by the attention while Zavi reached out to touch a leaf, her fingers curling around it with wonder.
Reyansh watched them for a long moment before saying quietly, “Tonight, we didn’t just celebrate a birthday… we planted the future.”
Vaishu nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “And whatever storms come, this family will stand together.”
Under the starlit sky, surrounded by love, two lives were honored, not just for who they were today, but for the legacy of kindness they were born into.
