Vimal hugged Chaitra to his chest and sobbed on looking at her being unconscious in his arms. Rishi and Aadhi felt devastated on seeing the couple. Rishi wiped his tears and pulled the brake at the hospital. Jumping out of the car, he opened the door of the backseat and carried Chaitra into the hospital. Both Rishi and Vimal saw a doctor and helpers who were ready with a gurney.
Rishi laid Chaitra on the gurney and they followed the doctor who took Chaitra to the emergency room. Aadhi with Ridha in her arm, Rishi and Vimal stood outside in a broken state. Rishi pat Vimal’s back to console him but he was crying looking at the blood in his palms.
It was only two hours, he was happy celebrating his birthday with his wife and now he was standing before the emergency room while his love was struggling inside the room. Less than 5 minutes doctor walked followed by a nurse.
Doctor: Mr. Vimal, babies are under risk, they are struggling to breathe so we need to operate immediately to save them.
Vimal: Please go ahead and save my wife and our babies.
Doctor informed the nurse to arrange everything and Vimal signed the document which was given to him. Less than 10 minutes Chaitra was taken to the operation theatre and Vimal plopped on the floor crying. Aadhi had already informed both the families about the emergency and they rushed in a broken state.
Rishi explained everything happened and tried to console them but the pain was too much for them handle.
Kavitha: Why ? Why is it always my son to endure so much pain everytime ? Why can’t she let him live in peace ?
Hariprasad: What was the need to confront her while we all know that she is psychotic bitch.
Hari pulled Vimal to the couch and hugged him with a pat on his back.
Hari: Stay strong my son, you have come across everything. Now your babies will come out of this without any problem just like you do everytime. You will carry them in your arms. We are waiting to watch you and Chaitra name the twins.
Vimal broke down and looked at the light on the wall which was ON indicating the operation had started. He prayed for his wife and his babies. It felt like an eternity to Vimal as he waited for to hear from the doctor about his wife and babies.
Malini and Yuvraj arrived at the hospital and Aadhi broke down hugging her. The girls cried for their best friend who was fighting for her and the babies.
Finally the door opened and the doctor walked out with two nurses carrying baby in their arms. Vimal was the first to rush to the doctor and everyone followed him.
Doctor: Congratulations Mr. Vimal, you have been blessed with a boy and a girl.
Vimal: My wife ? how is my wife ? Can I see her ?
Doctor: Luckily you were able to get your wife on time so we have saved her and she is doing fine but your babies are born pre-mature so they need to be shifted to the Neonatal ICU until they are stable. Only you are allowed to carry the babies while others can just look at them as of now. Please be quick, we need to shift them to NICU.
Vimal wiped his tears with his sleeves and one of the nurse sprayed disinfectant liquid onto his palms. Later the doctor placed the girl baby in his arms and tears rolled down his cheek on seeing the tiny human in his arm. She was so tiny due to the pre-mature birth. The doctor did not let him carry too long and let the nurse take the girl baby to the NICU while she gave the boy baby in his arms only for few seconds. Vimal watched his babies being taken away and leaned on the wall crying over his fate.
Rishi: Vimal, stop crying. Chaitra and babies are good but they need extra care since they born pre-mature. Calm down man, stay strong and now lets go meet the doctor to know about the babies.
Vimal and Rishi entered the doctor’s cabin and they were told to be seated.
Vimal: How are my babies doing right now and how long they will have to be in the NICU ?
Doctor: Since they are born pre-mature they have difficulty in breathing.. I mean their lungs need support so we would put them on support system until they could breathe on their own. Also they will be now prone to infections very quickly so we would be administering antibotics and that is the reason we don’t allow anyone other than the parents to visit them until they are in NICU.
Vimal: They would be fine right ?
Rishi squeezed his arm while Vimal held back the tears that were threatening to escape anytime.
Doctor: Mr. Vimal, you don’t have to worry about them, they are absolutely doing fine. You can meet them but you will have to wear scrubs and use disinfectant. They are rules that are to be followed strictly for the well being of your babies as welll as the other babies in the NICU.
Vimal: What about my wife ? How long do I need to wait to meet her ? And she would be asking for the babies.
Doctor: She will be shifted to the ward anytime time after her recovery from ther OT and she could meet babies tomorrow since she will need lot of rest today. As for today she can look at your babies through a monitor.
Vimal bobed his head and walked out with Rishi. A nurse guided him to the NICU and he followed all the guidelines before entering it. He saw his babies laid on a radiant warmer and they were on respiratory support. He touched their reddish sole and palm that were curled.
Vimal: what about their feeds ?
Nurse: They are not ready yet to be fed directly from their mother so we will be doing that through tubes.
Vimal’s chest tightened on hearing and cursed his fate before he walked out. He stumbled and Rishi caught him while Vimal broke down.
Vimal: What did they do other being born to me ? Why does my fate affect them to this extent ? I coudn’t see them Rishi, they have tubes for breathing and they can’t even feed from Chaitra now. What would I say her ? She will be broken.. What is our fault ?
Rishi wiped his tears and pulled back from the hug and wiped Vimal’s tears.
Rishi: Chaitu will be shifted to ward now, you need to be strong for her. She will be scared to see you crying. Cheer her up and give her the confidence that babies are fine. She can’t stress especially after the sugery she had gone through. She needs you Vimal, the most, don’t let her down. Go wash your face and be ready to meet her, we don’t have more time now.
Rishi and Vimal entered the room he had booked for Chaitra and saw the whole family waiting for Chaitra. He entered the washroom and quickly washed his face and walked out. Kavitha passed a shirt to him and he got changed into it. 30 minutes later Chaitra was brought into the room and shifted to the bed. She was feeling drowsy and tears rolled from the corner of her eyes. She lifted her trembling hands and Vimal immediately sat next to her holding her hand and kissing her knuckle.
Chaitra: Babies…
Vimal: They are fine Ira… nothing to worry. We are blessed with a boy and a girl. They are so beautiful just like you. They are in NICU since they are born pre mature. I just met them and god Ira… .they are so adorable.
Chaitra: Babies..I… I want.. to…see..
Vimal informed the nurse and she switched on the TV in the room and showed the babies who were sleeping. Chaitra’s chest heaved on seeing her babies being on support. She was allowed to look at the babies for a minute before the TV went off.
Vimal: Hey..hey… Ira.. calm down. Its a natural procedure for all the babies to be placed in the NICU. You will see them tomorrow love, they are doing absolutely fine.
The nurse sent everyone out to pump Chaitra’s milk to feed the babies. Chaitra cried more that she couldn’t feed the babies and Vimal raked his fingers through her hair trying to console her. Once the nurse walked out everyone returned to the room and tried to be normal for the couples sake who had gone through a lot.
Chaitra was given medicines and she fell asleep instantly. Vimal knew she wouldn’t wake up any time soon so he informed their parents to stay back with her and walked out of the hospital with Rishi following him since he knew where he was going.
Vimal got in the driver seat and Rishi was in the passenger seat. Rishi stayed calm knowing the anger bubbling in Vimal and he had every right to that. Vimal parked the car at the porch of Raghavan’s home and stormed inside screaming for Manjari.
Raghavan and Vani rose to their feet on seeing him.
Raghavan: Vimal, how is Chaitra now ?
Rishi explained everything and Vani felt bad for Vimal and the elder couple stood with their hands folded before him.
Vimal: You don’t have to stand before me in this state but I would rather ask you to stay deaf for a while.
Rishi opened the door he had locked Manjari and saw her pacing in the room. Vimal immediately grabbed her by neck and pushed her against the wall. His eyes were blood shot and every pain Chaitra and his babies were going through made him mad and his hold around her neck tightened further.
Raghavan and Vani heard the muffled sounds from the room but they did not dare to enter the room. Rishi pinched the bridge of his nose before he stepped forward and tried to pull Vimal back.
Rishi: vimal, enough, let her go and we should return to the hospital. Don’t waste your time on her.
Vimal: I m not leaving this place until I kill this bitch with my own hands.
Vimal raised her from the floor and Manjari struggled in his hold and hit him to escape but Vimal was blinded in rage that he only made his hold tight around her neck. Her eyes rolled back and she was at the verge of losing her life when the Inspector barged in the room and with the help of constables he pulled Vimal away from Manjari who fell unconscious on the floor.
Inpsector crouched down and checked for her breathe and pulse.
Inspector: She is barely breathing and her pulse is very low. Vimal lunged for her once again but Rishi held him back.
Inspector: Vimal, stay in your limits. I know you have gone through a lot because of her but you cannot go against the law.
The constables carried her out and Vimal stood still his chest heaving in anger.
Rishi: We shall file attempt to murder against her.
Vimal: No, I will take care of what should be done with her. If you still have any ounce of love and care for your sister then it would be better you stay away from me for a while because you will hate me for what I will do for her.
Rishi: If you are done talking then lets get back to hospital.
Vimal walked out but Rishi stopped before his mom and dad.
Rishi: Mom, dad, I don’t think you should be staying here anymore. Please pack a few things for now and I will inform the driver to drop you home. I will be going back to hospital and later I will drop Aadhi home.
Raghavan: We need to meet Vimal’s parents and seek their forgiveness.
Rishi: Not now, they will need some time dad. They are hurt too much but sure they will not hold any grudge against you both.
Rishi hugged them before he walked out and got in the passenger seat of the car.
