Chapter 2

Reyansh’s heart skipped a beat for the first time and he held the hand that was touching his cheek from dropping down. He panicked on seeing her losing conscious and tried to pick her but again was shocked to see her fully grown baby bump.

Ignoring the pain and swallowing the lump in his throat he carried her to his car and laid her in the back seat. Getting into the driver’s seat he started driving and also called his doctor friend to be ready to check on the girl.

He hit the steering wheel and cursed himself for letting his guard down for a minute and drove to the hospital but his eyes betrayed as he checked on her frequently through the rear mirror. He picked a cap and mask from the dashboard and wore it before he carried her into the hospital through the back entrance.

He placed her on the gurney and unknowingly he held her hand as she was taken to the emergency room. He noticed holding her hand only when he was stopped outside the room and he let go of her hand. His pant and shirt were wet, even one of his hand was wet with some liquid and he didn’t know what it was but ignored everything and stood by the door waiting for the doctor to turn up.

A few minutes later the door opened and the doctor walked out.

Reyansh: Doctor how is she ? Nothing serious right ?

Doctor: Injury is minor and nothing to worry she is awake now but her amniotic sac has ruptured and we need deliver the babies immediately. I have called the gynaec and she will be arriving to take care of.

Reyansh: Why wait for her to arrive ?

Doctor: I m not a gynaec. Be patient and she will be shifted to a ward until she is ready for labour. You can stay by her until then. You need to sign the papers for admission and by the way who is she ?

Reyansh Mv: Who is she ? Why not just leave her and mind my own business ?

The door was opened and a nurse came out pulling the gurney. He saw the girl crying in pain and his heart shattered to see those eyes again in so  much of pain.

Reyansh: Make sure she is taken care completely. Give her best treatment and do anything to take her pain away.

Doctor: We will give her best treatment but can’t take her pain away. That is not possible. She will go through until the babies are born. Go, stay with her and give her some support she needs someone by her side.

Doctor walked away patting Reyansh’s shoulder and he entered the ward where the girl was shifted and saw a nurse giving her some injections. He entered the washroom and looked at his hands.

Reyansh: This is her baby fluid ? What am I doing here ? God… Rey get out of this hospital and let the staffs take care of her and inform her family.

Reyansh Mv: But her eyes held so much of pain and how could I leave her in this condition ? Let me call someone from her family and I will leave when someone comes to take care of her.

Reyansh: Yes, let me talk to her to know her family.

He quickly washed his hands and walked out of the washroom and took a step to know her details but seeing her crying in pain holding her bump in one hand and the other hand clutching the pillow he stumbled back to the wall, his heart thudding against his ribs. He took breathes to control the panic rising in him and sat in a corner watching her tears which turned his eyes moist too.

An hour later the gynaec entered the ward and the nurse lifted her dress for the doctor to check up. Reyansh who was in the corner turned away until he heard the doctor.

Doctor: Unga peru enna ma ? ( what is your name ?)

Girl: Vaishnavi..

Reyansh mumbled her name “ Vaishnavi ” and his lips twitched a little giving his attention to what the doctor was saying.

Doctor: Good Vaishnavi, you are doing good but we need to wait until you are fully dilated and I can see you are carrying twins. So don’t worry few hours and you will have your babies in your arms. Who is here with you ?

Vaishnavi shook her head negatively but Reyansh cleared his throat.

Reyansh: I m here for her..

His eyes met her tearful ones and her lips wobbled as she heard his words. He nodded his head and moved next to her greeting the doctor.

Doctor: I will be back to check after some time.

Reyansh: Let a nurse be here to take care of her. I have no idea on what to do. She is in so much pain.

Doctor: Not a big deal sir. Hold your wife’s hand and keep talking to her with positive words. Encourage and console her that you will be seeing your babies in few hours.

Reyansh choked hearing the doctor’s words and he badly wanted to correct her that Vaishani is not his wife but before that Vaishnavi’s cry startled him and he held her hand instantly and their fingers intertwined when she gripped through his fingers in pain.

All he could see was her closed eyes and their interlaced fingers. He felt the most precious moment as well as the painful moment being with her all alone in the room seeing her cry holding his hand.

Finally after 2 hours he let go of her hand when she was taken in the labour room and he waited outside raking his fingers through his hair going mad of not knowing her condition inside the room.

Reyansh Mv: fucking control your emotions damn it. You just met her few hours back and here you are going crazy and remember she is someone’s wife and giving birth to his child.

30 minutes later the door opened and two nurse came out holding two babies one each hand and smiled at Reyansh.

Nurse: Congratulations sir, you are blessed with a boy and a girl.

Reyansh Mv: Naa appa va ? Sollen da nee illa nu.. ( I m the father ? Tell them you are not man )

Before he could refuse to take the baby, nurse placed the babies in his hand teaching him to hold them at the same time. His entire world froze as he saw the most wonderful and cutest babies completely pink with little hair, button nose, little lips, little grown eye brows, those beautiful eyes looking at him.

He lost all his senses and sat on the couch looking at the little ones. Unknowing to him he was shedding tears and smiled when the little boy yawned but still looking at Reyansh.

Someone patted his shoulder and he looked at the nurse standing with a frown.

Nurse: I have been calling you for a long time.

Reyansh: Oh, I didn’t hear. What happened ?

Nurse: Your babies will be with you only but now please give them to me. We need to do check up and I will bring them to the ward.

Reyansh: check up ? they are fine right ?

Nurse: They are fine but its a procedure to do check up their vitals. You can wait in the ward and your wife with babies will be shifted soon over there.

Reyansh: How is she ?

Nurse: Finally you remembered your wife. She is fine but extremely tired and exhausted after delivering two babies. She needs a lot of rest. Doctor will speak to you to take care of her.

Nurse left taking the babies and Reyansh was still looking at his arms where he held those little ones and he felt true happiness after years of losing his parents.

He returned to the ward and saw two cribs placed already and touched them with a smile. The door opened the nurse placed the babies in the crib and Vaishnavi was shifted to the bed from the gurney and the nurse helped her to sit leaning on the bed.

Her eyes looked so calm and painful even after delivering the babies. He didn’t know what was happening to him looking at her eyes which were on the cribs.

Nurse: I will teach you to feed the baby now.

Reyansh looked everywhere but her and walked out giving some privacy. Vaishnavi held the baby in her arms and cried looking at his face. The nurse guided Vaishu and she fed both her boy and girl. Nurse patted the babies back to burp and laid them on the crib. She walked out and informed Reyansh to call if anything was needed.

Reyansh entered the room and saw Vaishnavi and the babies asleep. He sat on the seat and looking at her face fighting within himself if he should stay or leave but instead he fell asleep.

 Both Vaishnavi and Reyansh woke up when they heard the babies crying at the same time. He pressed the button calling the nurse but Vaishnavi sobbed looking at her crying babies. She tired to get down but he stopped her..

Reyansh: Don’t move… I will get them…

He slowly picked the girl and gave her to Vaishnavi his fingers brushing with hers spending sparks through his body. He carried the boy and walked out giving Vaishnavi privacy to feed. He wiped the little tear from the corner of his eyes and the boy looked at him blinking cutely bringing a smile on Reyansh’s face.

The nurse walked towards him and Reyansh informed her to help Vaishnavi. The nurse got the girl from Vaishnavi and gave her to Reyansh taking the boy to Vaishnavi.

Nurse: Sir, you need to put her on your shoulder and pat her back gently until she burps. Do the same for the boy too.

Reyansh did as the nurse said and heard a burp which made him chuckle and he wondered when he smiled so much in his life like he did after the little one’s were born.

Reyansh: You are too adorable muffin..

He kissed her forehead saw her falling asleep. He entered the room and after asking for permission and placed her in the crib. He heard the boy burping and took him from her arms and placed him in the crib placing a kiss on his forehead. He sat on the couch and looked at Vaishnavi, her eyes cast down and her finger fidgeting with each other.

Reyansh cleared his throat to start a conversation with her and she gulped in nervousness still not looking at him.

A/N:

It would be strange for someone to do much for a girl whom he met just few hours back but anyone with humanity will help and upon that he wanted to leave but there was something stopping him. We will see what that something is in the upcoming chapters.
