One week passed with Pari and Ishaan living their dreams. She avoided meeting Varun under the pretense of being busy with business, though she knew she would eventually have to face the inevitable, so she decided to play against him.
Varun tried reaching out to Ishaan to discuss their project collaboration, but Ishaan simply sent him a message saying he was overseas and would talk once he returned to the country.
In Pari’s office, Ishaan was lying on the couch with his head resting on her lap. Pari raked her fingers through his hair while he held her other hand, pressing gentle kisses on her fingers and palm.
“I think you should get back to business. Ayaan will drag me out or worse, throw me out of the office. I’ve been ignoring work for a whole week now,” Pari teased, twisting his moustache.
“I’ve done nothing but work all these years. Now I’m living, and I feel alive. So don’t disturb my schedule,” Ishaan replied, holding the back of her neck and pulling her down for a kiss. But Pari quickly placed her palm between their lips.
“Excuse me, whats the schedule you are speaking of ? You drive me to the office, crash on the couch, and drag me around with you. We do nothing but kiss and cuddle, have lunch and dinner, and then you drop me home. That’s been your schedule lately. Now get back to business. Let me remind you—we have someone to deal with. He’s been calling and messaging me non-stop.”
Ishaan frowned and sat with one leg crossed over the other, his arm sliding around her shoulder.
“First of all, we are living in peace. And if you’re worried that all we do is kiss, well… that can be addressed. There’s a lot more we could do,” he teased.
Ishaan pressed a kiss against her neck, but Pari quickly pushed him away and returned to her seat. He winked at her, and she tossed a pen at him in mock annoyance.
“Okay, back to the discussion. Don’t worry about him. Just tell him you’re busy—we’ll deal with him in time. I’ll have to fly to Delhi. Your grandpa has arranged a meeting with the Industrial Minister. How about you come along? You could also meet your grandparents,” he suggested.
Pari shook her head firmly.
“No, Ishu. I need to focus on business. Papa and Rey uncle want to be relieved at the earliest. They’ve carried this empire on their shoulders for years, it’s time they finally rest.”
Ishaan smiled at her words, nodding in understanding, though he still beckoned her to come closer. Pari shook her head again and opened her laptop to check her mails.
“I’ll miss you, Pari,” he murmured. “I’ll be in Delhi for at least three days and two nights. There’s also a business party that I can’t avoid. I just got you in my life, I don’t want to leave you now.”
Pari sauntered over to him and placed a tender kiss on his forehead.
“Just three days, Ishu. I’ll miss you too, but let’s crave each other for those days. And when you’re back, show me all your love. You’ve waited so many years for me, now it’s my turn to wait for you. Let me feel that craving,” she whispered.
Ishaan wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her cloth-clad tummy gently.
“I’ll make it up to you for leaving you. Don’t make any plans for this weekend,” Ishaan said.
Pari agreed to his words, and the next day Ishaan left for Delhi.
Pari sat in her office, lost in thought. Ishaan kept messaging her now and then, updating her about his schedule and checking on her.
During lunch, her phone rang. It was Varun. She reluctantly answered.
“Pari, I haven’t met you in ten days. I miss you so much,” Varun said.
Pari rolled her eyes and clenched her jaw at his words.
“I miss you too, Varun. Where are you? I’m sure you’re busy with work,” she replied in a flat tone.
“Not too busy. But I’m leaving for Bangalore tonight. I just wanted to inform you. And how about we spend some time together this weekend? We were supposed to work things out, but we keep getting stuck in business. I think we need a break. I’ll plan something for us this weekend. Will that be okay?”
Pari instantly agreed and cut the call. But as she leaned back in her seat, her fingers tapped rhythmically on the table while her mind churned with thoughts. She had a plan—something she had been waiting to execute. She decided she would act on it the next day, but first, she called her grandpa to confirm Ishaan’s exact schedule.
The next morning, Mithun and Kajal waited for Pari to join them for breakfast. Instead, Mithun received a call, followed by a piercing scream from Pari’s room. He rushed upstairs.
He burst into her room and found Pari curled up on the floor, clutching her stomach and crying in pain. Without wasting a moment, he scooped her into his arms and carried her to the car. Kajal quickly phoned their doctor to explain Pari’s condition. Mithun’s bodyguard sped them to the hospital, while his PA, following in another car, informed Reyansh about what had happened.
As soon as they arrived, Pari was rushed into the emergency room for treatment. Mithun slumped into a chair in the waiting area, only then noticing a folded paper slipped into his pocket—something that hadn’t been there when he left home. He opened it and took a long, sharp breath.
By the time Reyansh and the family arrived, Kajal was in tears. Vaishu wrapped her arms around her, trying to console her, while Rey hugged Mithun. Wordlessly, Mithun handed Rey the paper. Reyansh read it, then gave a grim nod. Mithun pulled out his phone and immediately called both Varun and Ishaan, informing them about Pari’s condition.
Varun’s parents arrived within an hour and saw the family gathered outside the emergency room.
“Where is Varun?” Mithun asked them immediately. They exchanged a brief glance before answering.
“He’s in Bangalore for a business meeting. He’ll be back tonight. But don’t worry, we’ll take care of Pari until then,” Varun’s father assured. Mithun gave a short nod.
A few minutes later, the doctor stepped out. “She’s asleep due to the medication. We’ll need to run a few tests once she wakes up,” he explained.
Pari was shifted to a VVIP room, and the family quietly followed her in. Vaishu and Kajal held her hand gently, each kissing her forehead.
Reyansh gestured for Vaishu and Kajal to step out with him, leaving Mithun, Varun’s parents, and the younger ones—Ishika, Adhvika, Ayaan, and Zara in the room.
Just then, Mithun received a message and instructed his PA to escort Varun’s parents to the guest room.
Suddenly, the door burst open. Ishaan stormed in, looking disheveled and frantic. He ignored Mithun and the others, rushing straight to Pari’s bedside. He sat down, clutching her hand tightly, then finally looked at Mithun.
“What happened to her? She was fine last night!” Ishaan demanded, his voice sharp with fear.
“I don’t know, Ishu. We’re still waiting for the reports. She’ll be fine, calm down,” Mithun replied steadily.
Ishaan clenched his teeth, cursing himself under his breath for leaving her alone. Ishika touched his shoulder, trying to soothe him. “Be strong,” she whispered, but Ishaan refused to move away from Pari.
When Pari stirred awake, Ishaan instantly leaned down, wrapping her in a desperate hug.
“I’m so sorry, Pari. I never should have left you. Please forgive me, I would never leave you alone”
He pulled back just enough to press a kiss on her forehead.
“I’m fine, Ishu. Stop worrying,” Pari murmured weakly.
But Ishaan shook his head, brushing the strands of hair from her face before holding her again, refusing to let go.
“Ishu,” Mithun reminded softly, “the doctor will be here soon. Pari needs to be taken for a few tests.”
Reluctantly, Ishaan nodded and shifted to the couch, though his eyes never left her.
The door opened again. Everyone, including Varun’s parents, entered the room. Pari reassured them with a faint smile that she was fine. Moments later, the doctor walked in, followed by a nurse, ready to proceed with the tests.
Ishaan knew she would be taken for the test and walked out of the room. Mithun helped Pari into the wheelchair, and she was wheeled out. Pari saw Ishaan waiting outside and pouted at him.
“Ishaan, I feel like a patient being wheeled around,” she said.
Without a word, Ishaan scooped her into his arms. The nurse led the way, and he carried her to the scan room. He laid her gently on the bed and sat beside her, holding her hand. Pari blushed when the nurse lifted her shirt, exposing her bare abdomen. But Ishaan’s eyes held no trace of desire—only deep concern. Not when she was unwell. His entire attention was on her well-being as he watched the doctor scan her abdomen. Later, blood was drawn for multiple tests.
After what felt like hours, he carried her back and placed her in the wheelchair. The nurse wheeled her to the room. Ishaan paced the corridor impatiently, waiting for the doctor to arrive with the reports.
When he entered, Kajal was caressing Pari’s hair as she lay on the bed. Ishaan sat on the couch, leaning forward, his elbow resting on his knee, eyes never leaving her. Post-lunch, Varun arrived. Ishaan’s jaw tightened, his fists clenching at the sight.
Varun sat on the bed beside Pari and took her hand.
“I’m sorry, Pari. I was in the middle of a meeting when I got the news. How are you? What happened?”
Pari coughed lightly, pulled her hand away, and smiled faintly. “I’m fine. I’m sorry you had to rush back, leaving your business.”
“No, Pari. I finished the meeting before boarding the flight. Dad and Mithun uncle assured me they’d take care of you. It’s good to have family who care for us,” Varun said with a smile. Pari forced one in return.
From the corner of her eyes, she glanced at Ishaan, who was silently watching her. Just then, a staff member entered with a trolley and served coffee. Vaishu handed a cup to Ishaan and sat beside him.
“Ishu, weren’t you supposed to meet the Industrial Minister this morning?” Vaishu asked casually.
All eyes turned to Ishaan. But he remained calm, sipping his coffee. “The meeting can wait. The minister can wait. Family comes first.”
Varun’s face instantly paled. An uneasy silence filled the room. Ishaan’s gaze, however, remained fixed on Pari, who struggled to swallow her tears, knowing she was always his top priority.
Moments later, the doctor entered with the reports. Everyone’s nerves tightened.
“It would be better if I speak with Ms. Pari and her parents in private,” the doctor said.
The atmosphere grew heavy.
“Doctor, we are all family here. Please, go ahead,” Pari said softly.
Ishaan’s heart thudded painfully. He silently prayed, “Give me all the pain, but let her live healthy and happy.” His fingers interlaced tightly to steady their trembling.
“She is fine,” the doctor began, “but the problem lies in her uterus. I’m sorry, she has acute endometriosis – stage four. Surgery is required immediately, along with continuous medication. But…” he paused, “the chances of her bearing a child in the future are very slim, almost none.”
Gasps filled the room. Pari hung her head low as tears spilled. Kajal pulled her daughter into a tight embrace, holding her as if she could shield her from the cruel truth.
